Not all coffee is created equal

At River Roasters, we pride ourselves in producing the finest coffees anywhere.
How can we make this claim? A combination of factors:

"Small batch roasting"
We don't use conveyor belts, automated and other large scale techniques for our roasts, but rather our experience and our senses. We hand check each and every roast for color, to ensure the best possible result. We listen to roasting beans, and bring even our mild Vienna house coffee all the way to the '2nd cracking' to ensure full flavor beans from every batch.

"Slow roasting"
Many roasters use temperature approaching 450 degrees; they save time and money by using such high temperatures. Our beans, on the other hand, are roasted at temperatures closer 390 degrees. You know that our beans are not burned before they're roasted all the through, making the flavor cleaner and richer.

"Highest quality arabica beans"
Some roasters dilute their beans -- and the quality of their coffee -- with inexpensive, inferior arabica or robusta beans. We refuse to sacrifice the quality of our coffee for a few pennies. When you drink our coffee, you'll appreciate the fact that we use only the finest high-altitude arabica beans in every batch. In addition, we specialize in estate grown beans. These are the select, highest quality beans that coffee farmers from a given region don't include in the big co-op batches, but rather sell separately as premium beans. Whenever available, we acquire these beans to ensure we are using only the finest beans anywhere.

"High altitude roasting"
Many believe that roasting coffee at higher altitudes is optimal for producing a high-quality dark roast and richer taste.

"Air quelching"
Our beans are cooled ('quelched') using only air passed over the beans. Other roasters use water to cool their beans, which adds water weight and compromises the chemical stability of the bean. You get the benefit of a bean with longer shelf life, and you're not buying water weight!
